Value Chain Benchmark Programs and Surveys
  This list, compiled by the MeasuredPerformance blog,  provides a brief description of organizations that are providing benchmarking services that relate to value chains.  It is not an exhaustive list and readers are encouraged to provide additions or corrections to this site or MeasuredPerformance.

The organizations are grouped as academic organizations, commercial organizations (including trade associations and consultants), and government organizations.  Some of these services require fees and/or participation in the benchmarking to access the data.  

 
Center for Supply Chain Research CSCR

(Smeal – Penn State)

A key research activity of CSCR is its leadership of benchmarking consortia across a number of supply chain areas. Members benefit from sharing quantitative and qualitative data to improve their processes and operations. Each group meets two to three times per year to share best practices at different host locations. Currently, there are four active consortiums that concentrate in the areas of Global Trade Compliance, Customer Service, Sales and Operations Planning, and Transportation processes related to the field of logistics and supply chain management.

Cranfield University (School of Management)

The purpose of the survey is to identify the operating practices of large UK manufacturing companies which affect the alignment of shareholder objectives and customer needs. This survey is part of a project called AIMSS (Aligning and Integrating Market and Supply Strategies), conducted by Cranfield University School of Management and sponsored in part by the government.

CAPS Research (with Arizona State University)

CAPS Research benchmarking activities are designed to support supply management organizations. Benchmarking programs include:

Industry-specific benchmarking to compare supply management business practices to other organizations within the same industry sector.

Cross-Industry reports include standard metrics that are used across all industry sectors and published twice a year.

Each of the four Market Baskets of Goods reports provide comparative information on actual prices paid for MRO Goods, Office Products, IT Goods and Services, and Print Services. These reports include average and median prices, as well as the lowest and highest prices reported for each item and the percent of companies who reported they purchased items as specifically identified or equivalent items.

Finally, the Focused benchmarking reports are structured as on-demand surveys, and the reports have included topics as diverse as investment recovery, supplier diversity, eProcurement, and shared services centers.

ACSI was developed by the National Quality Research Center (NQRC) at the Stephen M. Ross Business School at the University of Michigan.  The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) is an economic indicator based on modeling of customer evaluations of the quality of goods and services purchased in the United States and produced by both domestic and foreign firms with substantial U.S. market shares.
